After enjoying a really nice free range summer without much of a schedule, the kids and I are in for a shock this September when our fall schedule kicks into place. This summer has been so nice! We’ve slept in, had breakfast together and then went off and adventured for the day. Our latest discovery is hiking, which has been something I didn’t expect to fall in love with so much!
I am working really hard to make small lifestyle changes that I know will add up to so me thing larger if I keep up with them. Things like moving my body everyday, drinking 80 ounces or more of water a day and being really mindful about what I eat are all at the top of my goal list. It is my top self care goal for 2016, to love my body well. Recently, I came to terms with the fact that sweet and salty will always be my favorite flavor combination. If I have popcorn or pretzels, I need a small bit of chocolate to finish it off. In the past when the craving hit, I would have gone to the movie theater and ordered a bucket of butter popcorn and a box of my favorite chocolate candies and combined them.
Recently, I discovered I could accomplish the same flavor profile at home with Weight Watchers Pecan Crowns and Jolly Time Healthy Pop Butter microwave popcorn. I picked up both of these fabulous finds at Stop And Shop.
This popcorn is really great tasting! And at 3 points for the whole bag, it’s a healthy switch compared to butter movie theater popcorn! To satisfy my sweet side, I chopped up one Weight Watchers Pecan Crown.
On Sunday nights, I prep food for our week. This is another small healthy step I’m making. There are so many moving parts to our week and the kids are just 3 and 7! Due to extra curricular activities, our Wednesdays are crazy. I go from car line pick up at school to Malone’s Ninja Warrior school to church for Bible Study and Awana for the kids. That means that late afternoon snacks and dinner have to be done in the car. It’s not my favorite day of the week because it is so hectic, but this schedule works well for our whole family.
Last year, I would have swung through a drive thru window and picked up fast food for dinner. This year, I got everyone a second lunch box and we’ll have a simple packed dinner.
My new on the go go-to healthy snack is sweet and salty caramel pecan popcorn in a mason jar.
I have found that one bag of popcorn will fill three larger size mason jars. I chop and add one Pecan Caramel per jar for a perfectly portioned sweet and salty snack I can take with me on the go.
Discovering that I could replicate a healthier version of my favorite movie theater snack has been a game changer!
