One of the bloggers I admire most, Alison from Writing Wishing has started a weekly photography prompt with her friend Greta from GFunkified. They are on a quest to build their photography skills, and blog their way through it with Through The Lens Thursday. One of my goals for 2014 is to learn my fancy DSLR better, so I am going to join them from time to time. I don’t know if it will be every week, but I might.

The prompt for this week is reflection.

I could write a million words about reflection. About what it means to me to reflect or how it makes me feel to do so. I could totally write a blog post about reflection. LIKE A BOSS. But to grab my camera and try to capture something through the lens that similar to what I would write was challenging. And to turn off my “auto” setting for the first time and use my 50 mm lens instead of the kit lens I’m so comfortable with was a bit scary. Terrifying, actually.

Reflection Through The LensTaken with a Canon EOS Rebel XS. 50 mm lens  F/2.8, ISO 1600 (thanks, Tamara for telling me to crank it up indoors). If I forgot a number to put here, kindly let me know. This is really all Greek to me.

I have so much to learn about photography. But I am 100% in love with this photo because it captures the heart of everything I’d want to tell you about my life right now. I love parenting siblings. Their resemblance is striking and I know they both see their reflection in each other’s face.

Here is a side by side of Malone and Lola at 5 months.

Through The Lens Reflection 2

A picture really can tell 1000 words, can’t it?
