Every Thanksgiving, we head down to Philadelphia from MA to spend the long weekend with our in laws. Last year’s five hour road trip ended with my biggest motherhood meltdown to date. There is a comedy of errors that happened along the way, but I ended the day locked in a bathroom, crying, and eating a cheese steak on the toilet.
For along time I’ve carried a lot of guilt with about that day. I realized it happens to everyone but thing is, not everyone talks about it. Recently, 30 bloggers put on their brave to share their own meltdown stories in the recently published The Mother Of All Meltdowns.
If you are a mother, have a mother, are about to become a mother, married/partnered/dating someone who is a mother, or just generally love honest, authentic, GOOD writing, this book is for you. This book is written by real mamas who are sharing their meltdown moments straight from the heart. You will laugh, you will cry, you might even snort your drink, but best of all, you’ll walk away knowing you’re not alone. Every mama melts down at some point.
I’d love to get into the details of each story with you, but I love them all so much I’d spoil them for you. But I will say this. My favorite story of the book came from Stephanie Farley who blogs at Crayon Marks and Tiger Stripes. Her meltdown came during a potty break while in the middle of a road trip. She and her toddler son were in the bathroom together. There was cheering on the other side of the door. FROM STRANGERS.
You could try to guess the rest of the story or you could pick up a copy and read all of her hilarious details. The Mother Of All Meltdowns is available in paperback at Amazon and Barnes & Noble or you can get it digitally for your Kindle or Nook.
Or, you can enter below for your chance to win a paperback copy, courtesy of Crystal Ponti who curated and edited these fabulous stories.
*Disclosure- I was provided a copy of The Mother Of All Meltdowns in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Oh, man. Your story made me cry at the end!! I know too well that feeling of shame for not having a better handle on my emotions and behavior but I guess we are human, too.

Oh Nani, I didn’t mean to make you cry but I’m glad my story resonated with you too. It is so hard to keep a handle on things sometimes, especially now that Malone knows just which buttons to push!
We’re definitely not alone! That was one of the great things about reading the book…it really made you realize that it DOES happen to all of us! We’re so glad you enjoyed the book!!

I want to shout it from the rooftops. We’re all normal. We all meltdown!
Oh I have been driven to that point of locking myself in the bathroom! Thanks for the great review! If I wasn’t already a contributor, I would so go buy the book!

Yay! That’s what I’d like to hear, that you’d buy the book off of the review. It truly was a joy to review the book! You’ve been locked in the bathroom, but was there cheese steak?
Thanks so much for such a GREAT review!! Who hasn’t had a meltdown in the bathroom?!
I am among the moms in this book as well- and I was the one who made my kid the cheeseless grilled cheese.
I should have written about when my two year old locked me out of the house- THAT would have totally trumped everyone’s… (hint: I pulled the sliding glass door OUT OF the wall to get back in- while I was pregnant… in 100 degree summer heat.) 😉

I loved the Cheeseless grilled cheese story too! WOOF- what is it with two year olds and locking things? I can’t believe you pulled he glass door off of the wall! That is AMAZING!
I have tried to lock myself int he bathroom, but with my bunch they just find a way in! Seriously though we have all been there and thank you so much for the wonderful review. Just nice to know we aren’t alone after all is said and done!
I had flipped my lid so hard he was afraid to come near me. It was the perfect storm of meltdown- hunger, fatigue, and toddler. You’re right, there is great comfort in knowing we’re not alone!
Thanks for your review. So glad you enjoyed the book.

Enjoy doesn’t begin to describe it. I adored this book. I really did. I think I’m going to pick up a few copies for the holidays!
Why do mothers so often end up locking themselves in a bathroom with food and tears? Loved your story. And you are NOT ALONE! 🙂 I’ve appreciated your ongoing support with MOAM. Thank you so much, NJ. 🙂

Crystal, it has been a joy to get behind this project and thank you for putting the book together! I feel like the bathroom is the Holiest of Holies. The one place in the house a mama can be and pray no one else joins her (ha! who am I kidding)!
So glad you enjoyed the book! I was a bit intimidated when I first shared my story, but I’m so glad I did. I realize I’m not alone!

The we’re all in this together concept is amazing! I also really loved the bonus features!
It absolutely does happen to all of us, but it was still scary to write about it at first. I’m glad I did, and I’m glad you enjoyed the book!

Well, I’m really glad you did too!
Why don’t I bring a cheese steak with me when I lock myself in the bathroom? Thanks for the review, NJ!

I am looking forward to reading this book! Nothing is better than reading other moms’ stories and knowing I’m not the only one to have a meltdown I’m so afraid to share. Thanks for the giveaway!
