When the leaves start to change on Mt. Tom, there is a fall tradition that my family loves. Going out for a hike and grabbing a cider donut! If you’ve never tried one, boy are you missing out. According to Wikipedia, cider donuts are a tradition in the Northeast that happens around harvest time. Cider donuts are a cake donut covered in sugar, the batter includes cinnamon, nutmeg and apple cider. These donuts are typically sold at apple orchards and pair well with apple cider.
We have a toss up between three spots for our favorite cider donuts in Western MA. If you’re looking to grab a cider donut on the run, head to Donut Dip in West Springfield or Atkins Farm in Amherst. If you’re looking for a destination spot for a cider donut, the Apple Place in East Longmeadow is adorable and has a few outdoor games for the kids.
