Our cats, Harvey and Moxie are both shelter cats. They add so much fun to our lives. Moxie is a long haired black and white cat who loves hunting mice and playing in the shower curtain while we shower. She’s super friendly and has the personality of a hip grandmother. She’s spunky and keeps everyone in line. She can often be found wandering from bedroom to bedroom at night, checking in on us. She’s always quick to let us know when one of the kids isn’t feeling well in the middle of the night.
We brought Harvey into our family because Moxie is so spunky. We thought she’d like a playmate. It took her about six months to warm up to Harvey and now they’re great friends. Harvey is a short haired black cat who loves chasing Moxie around the house and getting into mischief with the kid’s toys. The other night, he played with a toy chopstick for over an hour. I don’t know how he managed to do it, but he was throwing it up in the air! He likes to smile for pictures which is super fun, even though he always ends up looking like a vampire cat.
When we brought Harvey home, it was under the condition that Malone was going to start being more involved in the care of our cats. Remembering to feed our cats has been easy for Malone. He thinks about it while he’s having breakfast. We’ve moved on to helping him learn about taking care of the cats through maintaining their litter box.
To help Malone remember his cat chores, I created a fun chore chart for him. He is the kind of kid who lives for checking boxes on a list… just like his mama.
Taking care of our cats is part of Malone’s responsibly within our family. Our job is to teach him the steps and to partner with him while he masters a new skill, like taking care of the litter box.
The first step to success is making sure he’s got everything he needs right in one spot.
This is our litter box station. There isn’t anything really glamorous about it, but it has everything Malone needs to clean the litter box. The small waste basket is the perfect place to scoop into. It also holds our cat litter scooper. We keep our Cat’s Pride® Fresh & Light Ultimate Care® here too, because the more equipped he is, the better job he’ll do. Ultimate Care clumps strong and is low dust.
Our Ultimate Care litter came from Walmart. It’s always so easy to pick up everything we need there. Cat’s Pride® has been in the litter business for a long time- they’ve got over 50 years of expertise and experience. On top of that, they’re a company that gives back. They partner with the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation™ to help end the needless suffering of animals. A portion of every sale supports the Foundation and their mission to end animal cruelty. Their mission holds a special place in our hearts, since our cats are both shelter cats.
Malone’s favorite step in taking care of the litter box is scooping. Ultimate Care has 10+ day odor control & powerful absorption (*Based on laboratory testing, when used as directed).
Next, it is time to refill the litter box. Ultimate Care is now over 50% lighter at 10 lbs (†See packaging for details).
The last step is to wash hands.
