Our cats, Moxie and Harvey live a good life with us. They’re both shelter rescues who came from the same shelter, but at different times.
Moxie is our first shelter rescue. We were immediately drawn to her because she was so friendly. The shelter didn’t know too much about her, other than that she spent some time on the streets and was spayed young female. As soon as we walked by her cage, she immediately walked to the edge and started purring. We knew on the spot that we’d be adopting her, even though she wasn’t ready yet. It was a long week for us to wait to pick her up, but she was so worth it.
She’s super friendly and very maternal. She spends her nights going from room to room, checking in on everyone while we sleep. Sometime around 2:00 am, she finally settles in for the night on Malone’s bed. She’s very intuitive and often wakes me up by batting at me with her paws the second one of the kids gets sick or needs attention in the middle of the night.
Moxie loves to play, which is the reason why we went back to the shelter to adopt another cat. We wanted to adopt a kitten, but at the time there weren’t any available. Instead, there was Harvey who was surrendered to the shelter after a family’s second child was diagnosed with a severe cat allergy. Harvey is also extremely friendly and “talks” to us with a funny little chirp. He spends most of his nights curled up by my feet.
While it took them months to finally figure it out, both Harvey and Moxie really enjoy each other’s company. Most of the time, they can be found near each other lounging in the sun or chasing each other around the house.
Each year, around the holidays we love to give back to the cat shelter that gave our cats a chance at a new life. They’re a no kill shelter and fully committed to caring for every cat that comes through their doors- even the hard to rehome/adopt ones.
This year, we put together a gift basket for them.
In our pet shelter gift basket we included:
- Cat litter- The pet shelter we got Harvey and Moxie from can serve up to 20 cats at a time. They always need cat litter!
- Medium sized basket- This basket is the perfect size for a cat to cozy up in or could be used to hold office supplies or outgoing mail.
- Fleece Blanket – Homeless cats need something cozy to curl up with!
- TEMPTATIONS® Treats and TEMPTATIONS® Snacky Mouse – Every cat loves a good treat!
We picked up these awesome TEMPTATIONS® cat treats and the TEMPTATIONS® Snacky Mouse at Walmart.
Moxie was very impressed. She was also very sad that we gave this gift basket away, but I have a feeling she’ll be getting her own treats very soon.

Making gift baskets for the pet shelter is a great idea and I think it is something the kids would love to put together this holiday season. (client)
