The first few weeks back to school are some of the hardest on me of the entire year. The re-entry into schedule and routine after summer is harder on me.
We’ve gotten used to doing our own thing this summer… no one went to day camp, had morning lessons, and there was absolutely no reason we needed to be out of our pajamas before 11:00 AM most days. The kids and I were free range and relaxed. We spent most of our days at the splash pad with a picnic lunch or playing at home.
But as summer slowly fades and back to school season is upon us, I have to do a complete 180. Malone’s school day is starting at 8:00 AM this year, which means he’s got to be dressed, fed and ready for the bus by 7:15 AM. Between the early bus, after school activities and evening events, our fall is going to be busier than ever.
There are so many elements about back to school that I can’t control. I can’t control the school forms that I have to fill out year after year, the amount of homework we’ll have to work on together or general chaos that fall brings.
But what I can control is my perspective how to rock out as a back to school mom. And? I can control how clean my house is. I don’t know if you’re like me, but in what feels like 2.75 seconds my house can go from clean and organized to overwhelm. I’m not sure how it happens, but it does.
I’ve got a solution for both cleaning and perspective. For cleaning, divide and conquer. I have a list of daily tasks and a list of zones I rotate through on a weekly basis. Around this time last year, a friend recommended Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day® products to me. Since then, they’ve been part of my cleaning routine.
Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day® products in Lemon Verbena scent are my favorite because of the freshness of lemon. The fact of the matter is that I have to clean my house, I going to do it with a scent I can’t get enough of!
Their products are made with essential oils, plant-derived ingredients, and not tested on animals. On top of being obsessed with the scent, I feel good about the product choice I’m making.
As I mentioned, I have both a daily and a weekly list that work through when it comes to cleaning. I keep it at my mom command center in my kitchen.
I’ve found that I need a reminder to do deeper cleaning… like wiping the grime off of fixtures and cabinets.
Here’s what my full command center looks like.
My command center has everything I need to keep organized and rock mom life.
To make your own command center, you have to first find the best place in your house for it. For me, the kitchen works best. Mine is right across from the coffee pot and stove and at a place where I see it several times a day.
Next, gather your family’s essential elements. For me, my planner is one of the most important pieces of keeping my family organized. I keep it open to the monthly view because my husband glances at it everyday before he leaves for work.
Next, add a motivational quote and a picture of your friends. This quote is my favorite. You can download your free printable here.
I finished off my mom command center with another motivational card, a pen, a picture of my kids, a basket to place actionable paperwork (think bills to pay and school forms to fill out), and my Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day® Multi-Surface Spray in Lemon Verbena scent. It’s the workhorse of my kitchen. And when I run out, I refill the spray bottle with Meyer’s Clean Day® Multi-Surface Concentrate in Lemon Verbena scent.
Meyer’s Clean Day® Multi-Surface Concentrate in Lemon Verbena scent is a complement to the Multi-Surface spray. It can be diluted with water or used straight up to fight tough stains.
I picked up my Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day® products in Lemon Verbena scent at Whole Foods Market.

I could definitely use a command center like this in my house. Everything is so chaotic during this time of year and something always gets lost. Thanks for the idea! [client]
