Now that school has been in session for a few weeks, I thought I’d share a few back to school mom hacks that I’ve picked up along the way. Our days are running really smoothly, despite the chaos that going back to school brings! This post about back to school mom hacks has been brought to you today by Chapstick®. But you guys already know, all opinions are my own!
Back To School Mom Hacks
A good planner will save your life.
As soon as you get the school calendar, plug everything into your planner that you can. Find the school’s menu online and ask your kid’s which days they might want hot lunch and which days you’ll be packing. This will give you an overview of your year (it also tells me when might be a great week to travel to grandma’s house because of a 4 day weekend situation).
Put every relevant number in your phone ASAP.
This year, we’ve already had a situation where Malone’s bus got lost. Thankfully, because I had programmed the bus company’s phone number in my phone at the start of the year, I was able to call ASAP at the bus stop and get him home. Think beyond just school too… what activities are your kids in that you might have to call and cancel if they’re sick? Things like piano, dance, gymnastics or karate might be some of the choices here.
Treat Yo Self.
You’ve survived back to school shopping with the kids and now it is time to reward yourself too! It doesn’t have to be something huge and expensive. Think a magazine, a latte or a new package of Chapstick®. Chapstick® is my favorite way to indulge and since Malone discovered it, I’ve been buying the multipacks.
He loves Cherry (timeless…) and I’ve fallen in love with Aloha Coconut. He’s decided that it is a MUST have in his backpack, which is awesome because it is a must have in my purse! ChapStick® is a skincare staple that helps keep lips smooth and silky all school year long. And, they’ve just come out with their online store where you can also shop!
Say no more than you say yes.
What I mean by that is this: be really intentional about family activities and extra-circulars. When you think about what you’re going to say yes to, remember to look at the entire picture for your family. This fall, we said no to soccer because we have a few other standing activities that happen during the week. But, by saying no to soccer, we said yes to traveling on the weekends because we don’t have to be around for games.
Limit breakfast options.
This might be my favorite back to school mom hack of all. The mornings are chaos around here because the bus comes so early. One of the best things I’ve done is limit what is available for breakfast. There is one kind of cereal or you can have toast with fruit and yogurt. That’s it during the week. Therefore, breakfast hasn’t become a fight.
