Do you BOO other families in your neighborhood? BOO’ing is such a fun tradition- last year was the first year we were BOO’d. It was so fun to see the neighborhood light up with their BOO signs!

For a lot of families, this Halloween marks the first time their child isn’t home to partake in the fun because they’re off to college. Lola and Malone aren’t there yet, but there is a family from our church that just recently launched their first child off to school away from home. I wanted to do something special for her, because she’s babysat for us and we just really adore her family. She is who inspired today’s blog post.

She’s the recipient of our BOO!

When I was asked to create a BOO kit, the first thing I did was head to Walmart for supplies. Everything I needed was easily found in the soda and seasonal aisles.

Boo Supplies

I also purchased a cute little tin to contain the candy in.

Boo Mail Supplies

Besides Halloween candy and soda, here are a few others things you need for this BOO Halloween care package.

  • box with hinged lid (so when they open it they see your BOO sign)
  • tissue paper
  • washi tape
  • printable cards (head here to find them)

To put your BOO together, fill the tin with candy. I love getting variety packs because there is something for everyone this way! We’re sending SNICKERS®, TWIX®, MILKY WAY®, 3 MUSKETEERS®, SKITTLES®, STARBURST®, and LIFESAVERS®.

After you’ve filled your tin, get your mailing box ready! Tape your “You’ve Been BOO’d” printable to the top underside of the box with washi tape, so when your recipient opens it, it shows!

Add tissue paper to the bottom of your box, place your tin and Sunkist® soda in, and voila! BOO Halloween Care Package!

If you are going to be performing a traditional BOO, follow these instructions for your printable.

  1. Print and cut out this “We’ve been BOO’d sign.
  2. Fold the “You’ve been BOO’d” greeting card (page 2) and tape openings together.
  3. Include the card and sign when gifting BOO bundles.

Since I had some supplies left over, I thought it would be fun to get a little crafty in the kitchen and make a cake! Did you know that you can add soda to your favorite cake mix to make soda cake? This is something my grandmother taught me.

On a wax paper lined cake pan, bake according to directions found on box.

Decorate! I like to freeze my cakes for about 40 minutes before I pop them out of the pan. I find it helps keep the intact and easier to work with.

Since Halloween is just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to get creative and make a girly monster.

She’s got a STARBURST® smirky smile, TWIX® ears,  SKITTLES® earrings, nose, eyeballs, and hair, and LIFESAVERS® ears, eyelashes, eyes, and bow.  I could have really smoothed out the frosting, but I liked the textured look of her monster skin.

To make the LIFESAVERS® pieces, I simply cut them into halves or into quarters. Easy peasy. Easy Girl Robot Candy Eyes
